Bedford Tramway project graphically describing a basic network
With the United Kingdom gradually becoming more aware of environmental
effects of pollution, the clean and green towns and cities are
re-opening their eyes to tram power. Tramways used extensively
on the continent have had much influence on our new, and potential
new tramways. Manchester now has a fully functional tramway,
as does the Docklands Light Railway in London. There are soon
to be tramway introductions to Sheffield, London (Wimbledon-Croydon-Beckenham)
and Dublin.
Disused railway lines and potential building onto the roads
create little problem for existing traffic flow, in theory.
The choice then to reduce the more local(in town) bus services
may also become available.

Applications for the above |
The aim of the project was to create a tramway service in
Bedford, a town I am familiar with and have researched fairly
extensively on the subject. It appears to be suited for this. |
